there's a certain bookmark in your Bookmarks file, but you can't figure
out which one it is by the cryptic names? Select Bookmarks, Edit
Bookmarks, press Ctrl+F (for Find), type what you're looking for and press
Enter. The pointer will jump to the first bookmark that contains that
text.

To view a history of the sites
you've visited, type:
About: Global
in Netscape's Location field (the
same place you type in a URL to visit a Web Site).

Lost in
Frames |
|
When you're
in a page divided into frames, it's hard to tell the URL of the active
frame. What normally shows is the Location field is the address of the
"menu" pane. To find out where you've ended up in your travels through
frames, right-click the frame you're curious about and select Frame Info.
There you'll see the URL. If you copy it and paste it back into the
Location field, the same site will appear without frames.

JavaScript Calculations |
|
One useful
aspect of JavaScript functions is that you can run them right from the
Navigator by entering them in the Location field. Want to do some quick
math for example, but don't want to break out the calculator? Enter
javascript:eval(4+4)
in the
Location box, then press Enter. A page that says "8" immediately appears.
Of course you can substitute any calculation you want in the "eval"
statement, so go ahead and add it up with JavaScript.

404 Not Found |
|
If you are
seeing the error message "404 Not Found" often. This usually indicates
that a URL does not exist--meaning that either it really doesn't exist or
you typed it wrong in the location box. Another explanation, however, is
that you may have your
memory and disk caches set too low. To raise the disk cache limit,
select Options> Preferences, then click the Cache tab. Raise the cache
gradually in increments of 1000 to find out which setting works best.

Connection Reset by Peer |
|
If you're at
a Web site and see the error message "Connection reset by peer," chances
are that the remote host has reset your connection. You can usually click
Reload to get back on track and bring up the URL normally.

Power

|
By pressing
the Reload button, this will refresh the current page viewed making
available that Web Sites latest
data. But sometimes, you don't get a very quick response. If this is
the case, speed up your reload by holding down the Shift key as you click
Reload. This should accelerate things.

Clear
Your Cache |
|
To speed the
downloading of Web pages, your browser stores copies of recently accessed
pages in the cache.
When you
click on the 'Back' or 'Forward' buttons in Communicator, pages are
retrieved from your machine's cache. This means your
computer doesn't have to retrieve the page from the Internet each time
you view it.
To ensure
your computer runs smoothly, you will need to clear these pages from the
cache regularly.
1. From the
Edit
menu, click on
Preferences.
2. Open the
Advanced category and select
Cache.
3. Click on
the Clear Memory

Transferring Bookmarks and
Address Book |
|
[Bookmarks]
If you want to transfer your bookmarks from one computer to another,
Here's how: You will find your Bookmarks stored in a file called
bookmark.htm in your user folder on the
hard drive. The default path is c:\program files\netscape\users\your
name (insert your own name for the last component). Copy this file to a
floppy disk and transfer it to your other computer, making sure to place
it in the proper folder there.
[Address
Book] You will find your address book file, usually called pab.na2 (pab
stands for Personal Address Book), located in the same folder as your
Bookmarks. Remember that the address book might be too large to fit on a
standard floppy. If this is the case, you can e-mail it to yourself as an
attachment and download it onto your second computer, or copy it to some
other, large-capacity removable media you have on your
system, such as a CD-RW or Zip drive.

Zip code search |
|
You can
quickly find out what's going on in your town by typing the word 'zip'
followed by your zip code in the URL location bar. However, this does not
work for all zip codes and will sometimes route to the largest neighboring
city.[Top] |
Adjust
your font size |
|
If the web
page text you are viewing is to small you can adjust the font by pressing
Command-Shift-]. Command-Shift-[ makes it smaller again. You can do this
repeatedly, going up one size increment each time. The increments are
small, so you may need to perform the keystrokes several times before you
notice a difference.

JavaScript Trouble
|
If you are
getting errors in your JavaScript, Netscape can help you to determine
where the problem may lie. Simply type JavaScript: into the Navigator
address bar and press Enter. A JavaScript window will appear, displaying a
list of errors encountered and the line number of the error(s). If you
open your HTML file and count the lines of
text from the top, you'll locate the probable cause of the error. Of
course, the reported line may not be the cause of
your problem, but it should lead you to it.

Password Security in Netscape 6 |
When you
share a computer with others, you'll probably want to make sure that the
other users can't access the passwords that you've used in Netscape 6. To
eliminate this possible security problem, run Netscape and choose
Edit| Preferences. When the Preference dialog box opens, click Privacy &
Security in the "Category" list. In the right pane of the dialog box,
deselect the check box
labeled "Remember passwords for sites that require me to log in."
You should now set up a master password if you haven't already. To do
this, click "Master Passwords" under "Category" and click Change Password.
When you finish, click OK to close the dialog box and save your settings.
